We offer a hike in the Luberon, a trip back in time around the high valley of Aiguebrun. This is a circular hike starting in the village of Buoux, allowing you to admire sites and vestiges that show how humans occupied a secret valley in the heart of the Luberon mountains for thousands of years.
Enjoy 5 hours of exceptional landscapes. The theme of this hike is the discovery of man’s ingenuity as he confronted the magnificent roughness of nature.
The Hike:
You will start the hike by the edge of the Buoux plateau. You will walk along the edge of the plateau, which features 100 m high cliffs overlooking the valley of Aiguebrun. You will enjoy the vast panorama of Aiguebrun, the Seguins farm below, the Fort de Buoux on a rocky spur facing you, and the Luberon mountain above.
Next, you will walk along a picturesque stone path featuring beautiful stone architecture and some troglodyte habitations. You can admire La Baume, a beautiful troglodytic house under shelter, and Chantebelle, a former hamlet partially restored.
You will reach Sivergues, a small village located above the valley of Aiguebrun on the old route leading to the mountain ridge. This tiny village, still partially inhabited, consists of a church and several well-restored houses.
Then, you will pass through les Seguins, an old restored hamlet now functioning as an inn, situated at the bottom of the Aiguebrun valley, at the foot of superb 100 m high cliffs. There, you will discover a stunning site with magnificent landscapes.
Finally, you will visit the Fort de Buoux, the vestiges of an old medieval fortress built on a rocky spur 60 m above the valley. The medieval military architecture of this fort is rich in historical significance. The Fort de Buoux was key to the strategic defense system of this area of the Luberon.
