We propose a hike to discover the exceptional landscapes of the Calanques mountain range, particularly the calanques of Morgiou and Surgiton, along with the incomparable vistas from the paths around Mount Puget. This is a circular hike starting at Marseille-Luminy, offering breathtaking landscapes.
Enjoy 4 hours and 30 minutes of exceptional views. The theme of this hike is the discovery of the unique landscapes of the calanques.
The Hike:
You will start on the path beneath the crest of Saint Michel, with an exceptional view of the Calanque of Morgiou, famous for its “cabanons.”
Then, you will walk the path above Cap Surgiton, where you’ll enjoy your first view of the Calanque of Surgiton, known for its two coves and the rocky islet of Torpilleur. You can also admire the unobstructed view of the towering cliff, "Falaise des Toits," which dominates the sea at over 100 meters.
Next, you will walk 3 km to reach the Calanque of Surgiton, one of the most beautiful calanques, accessible only on foot. This superb site has a fantastic atmosphere, with the possibility of swimming during the hottest months.
Continue along the path of 13 contours. This short balcony path stretches for 2.5 km at the foot of the cliffs, on the sunny slope of Mount Puget, at an elevation of 250 to 400 m. This path offers many scenic vistas on three successive levels, with the sea and calanques on one side and Mount Puget and its cliffs on the other.
Then, you will take the path behind the enormous rocky mass of the Grande Candelle. At the foot of the Candellon rock, you will enjoy beautiful views of the sea: on one side, Cap Morgiou; on the other, the eastern part of the mountain, with the immense orange-colored Soubeyrannes cliffs dominating the bay of Cassis.
Finally, the last kilometers will lead you to "Col Ricard," where you'll enjoy beautiful scenic vistas of the Domaine of Luminy below and the city of Marseille in the distance.
