We suggest a hike to discover the landscapes of the Alpilles and of the citadel of Les Baux.
It is a circle hike, starting at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, offering the possibility of admiring superb landscapes.
6 hours of exceptional panoramas.
The theme of this circuit is: the discovery of the Alpilles mountain range over the course of centuries.
The Hike:
You will start the promenade by visiting the antiquities in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence: The Mausoleum of the Juli (30 BC) and the Arc de Triomphe (20 AD). These buildings mark the entrance of the old Hellenic, later Roman city of Glanum. These are among the best-preserved Roman monuments of Provence.
Then you will walk the Alpilles ridge path for 4 km, east-west orientation, going for 20 km in the northern part of the mountain range. You will benefit from an unobstructed view thanks to a vast panorama.
Finally, you will reach the Baux-de-Provence. This village is considered one of the most beautiful villages of France. It is built on its rocky spur and on the vestiges of its citadel.
You will then go back down toward Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. This final portion of the hike will allow you to enter into the imaginary universe of the Dutch painter Van Gogh. The circuit is dotted by reproductions of the works of Vincent Van Gogh, painted in Saint-Rémy itself.
