It is in the heart of the Luberon, in Ménerbes, classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France, that we offer to go this week.
A visit of one of the most beautiful vineyards of the Luberon "the domain on the citadel" and its amazing and superb collection of corkscrews.
We propose a pleasant day of relaxation in this exceptional place.
The visit starts with a short walk by the vineyards … just to admire one of the most beautiful vistas, on the perched village of Ménerbes, then to continue toward the cellar then toward the Corkscrew museum to finish by the cave with a wine tasting.
The creator of this museum is none other than the movie producer Yves Rousset-Rouard who started this incredible collection by buying a corkscrew lot at auction...
When he bought the vineyard which was to become one of the most famous domaines of the Côtes du Luberon, he decided to install this collection in the old and full of personality part of the cellar, beautiful backdrop for a museum with a very well thought out stage design and lighting.
You will discover that this everyday item which seems banal has quite a history... We learn that the first corkscrew was probably invented by an Englishman in mid 17th Century, that there are several types of "meches" (full, pigtail...) and that their form and level of sophistication has evolved through the centuries.
This museum contains a formidable collection of more than 1200 corkscrews, from the most refined to the most humoristic.
The collection offered does not miss the "people" side of the Luberon and one can admire a corkscrew offered to the owner of the museum by Jacques Chirac, another by a big name jeweller.. Cesar even made one of his famous compressions for the opening about twenty years ago.
This museum welcomed a few years ago the international convention of "pomelkophiles".. this is how the corkscrew collectors are referred to and there are many of them in the world.
