It is a hike on a circle route, starting in the village of Buoux offering the possibility of admiring sites and vestiges showing how men occupied a secret valley in the heart of the mountains of the Luberon for thousands of years..
6 hours of exceptional landscapes.
The theme of this hike is: the discovery of man’s ingenuity as he confronted the magnificent roughness of nature.
You will start the hike by the edge of the Buoux plateau.
You will walk the edge of the Buoux plateau, comprised of 100 m high cliffs, overlooking the valley of Aiguebrun.
You will enjoy the vast panorama of the Aiguebrun and of the Seguins farm below, on the Fort de Buoux located on a rocky spur facing you and on the mountain of Luberon above.
Then you will walk on a picturesque stone road offering beautiful stone architecture with some troglodyte habitations. You can admire La Baume, a beautiful troglodytic house under shelter and Chantebelle, former hamlet partially restored.
You will reach Sivergues, a small village located above the valley of the Aiguebrun, on the old route leading to the mountain ridge. This very small village « at the end of the world”, still partially inhabited, is comprised of a church and of several well restored houses.
You will then go through les Seguins, an old restored hamlet now an inn, in the bottom of the valley of the Aiguebrun and at the foot of superb 100 m high cliffs. There, you will discover a superb site with magnificent landscapes.
Finally, you will visit the fort de Buoux, vestiges of an old medieval fortress, built on a rocky spur 60 m above the valley. The medieval military architecture of this fort is possessed of a great architectural richness. The Fort de Buoux was the key to the strategic defense system of this area of the Luberon.
A roadbook will be given to you to indicate where and when to meet.
This is a generally easy walk with some short steep and/or rocky passages.
