Luberon, hike to discover the Provençal Colorado

A journey to discover the history of ocher, multicolored rock created by nature.

It is a circle hike, starting at the village of Rustrel which offers beautiful landscapes and the observation of the various layers of ocher formed by nature and revealed by human activity.

3 hours of exceptional panoramas.

The theme of this circuit is: ocher, a multicolored rock created by nature and landscapes created by man.

You will start the hike by a former quarry.

In the open where the ochers are rather light.

You will admire beautiful 20-30 m high ocher cliffs with a variety of colors, from white to yellow to orange.

Then you will walk around the cirque de barries

Seen from above from a balcon path, a beautiful panorama is there to enjoy.

A plunging view over the Cirque de Barriès and then more expanded on the cliffs, the fairy paths, other cirques nearby as well as the village of Rustrel and the Monts du Vaucluse.

You will then reach the white desert

An old open-pit quarry with light colors.

You will be overwhelmed by this unique landscape with beautiful ocher cliffs with white and cream colors.

You will then go by the belvedere, above the cirque de Bouvene.

It is a former open-pit quarry with multicolored ochers.

You can admire a very beautiful view of the grandiose cirque and of several hoodoos including the most famous topped by its brown hat.

Finally, you will visit the sahara,

You will see cutting fronts in a vast open-pit quarry with varied colors.

This site is the product of work done jointly by man and by nature.

You will notice some superb contrasts between the layers of red and white sand.

A roadbook will be given to you to indicate where and when to meet.

This is a generally easy walk.
